Why we collect information

Any of the information we collect from you may be used in one of the following ways.

  • To personalize your experience (your information helps us to better respond to your individual needs.)

  • To improve our website (we continually strive to improve our website offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you)

  • To improve customer service (your information helps us to more effectively respond to your customer service requests and support needs)

  • To process transactions

  • To manage customer relationships or accounts and perform other administrative and operational tasks (including risk management, systems development, and testing, credit scoring, staff training, collecting debts, and market or customer satisfaction research);

  • To comply with our legal obligations under acts like the National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009, the Privacy Act, the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006,  the  pawnbroking and second-hand dealers act

  • To gather and aggregate information for statistical, prudential, actuarial, and research purposes; and

 

If you choose not to provide the information that we require for the above purposes, we may be unable to provide you with the goods and services you request from us.

 

What we collect

Personal information collected by Cashmart (or on our behalf) generally comprises a name, address, date of birth, gender, contact details (including telephone, mobile, and e-mail), and Identification numbers (driver's license number, Medicare number, health care card number, etc.). Sometimes we collect a few personal details unlikely to be known to other people to help us identify you over the telephone.

 

Disclosure

Cashmart will not give your information to Government agencies, private sector organizations, or anyone else unless one of the following applies:

  • you have consented;

  • you would reasonably expect or have been told, that information of that kind is usually passed to those individuals, bodies, or agencies;

  • it is otherwise required or authorized by law;

  • by your actions we consider you to have released us from our duty of confidentiality or to have consented to the disclosure of information about you without actually saying so (for example, if you discuss your financial position with family or friends, or have requested a third party to make payments on your behalf.);

  • it will prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to somebody's life or health; or

  • it is reasonably necessary for the enforcement of the criminal law or of a law imposing a pecuniary penalty, or for the protection of public revenue.

 

Depending on the product or service Cashmart has provided you with, we may disclose information to:

  • affiliated product and service providers and external product and service providers for whom we act as agents (so that they may provide you with the product or service you seek or in which you have expressed an interest);

  • auditors we appoint to ensure the integrity of our operations;

  • any person acting on your behalf, including your financial adviser, solicitor, settlement agent, accountant, executor, administrator, trustee, guardian, or attorney;

  • if required or authorized to do so, regulatory bodies, government agencies or courts, or anyone authorized by any one of them to receive such information;

  • other parties where you have consented to the disclosure

 

Credit Card Over the phone / online Payments

To protect your personal information, we take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure it is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed.

 

If you provide us with your credit card information for the purpose of paying interest online, the information is not kept or recorded and is only used during the EFTPOS transaction.  

 

Electronic Data

By selling/pawning an electronic device to Cashmart the customer agrees to release Cashmart from all and any claims, losses, or damages with respect to the device, any data stored or contained therein, or on any media used in conjunction with the device (whether in the form of personal details, SMS, photos, games, songs or other data ("Data")). Cashmart accepts no responsibility in relation to the security, protection, confidentiality, or use of such data and it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure so far as practicable that Data is backed up/removed from the device before selling/pawning it. Cashmart will attempt to factory reset / wipe all data, if the device has been sold to us or if the device has defaulted. 

 

Please note it may not be possible to delete Data directly from a non-functioning device. If the device is or becomes a non-functioning device you are therefore accepting the risk that it may still contain Data that may be accessible to any person who repairs the phone. This may include third parties to whom we have sold the device for spare parts. SimCards also fall under this policy.

 

Telephone

We may monitor and record telephone calls for training and security purposes.

 

Email

We will preserve the content of any email that you send us if we are legally required to do so. 

Your email address is used only to send you information that you have requested and as necessary to complete a transaction or application. Cashmart will not send you unsolicited email information, offers, or advertisements. Cashmart will not sell, rent or lend our contact lists or our customer’s contact lists (including customer data) to third parties.
